Business broadband FAQs
What is business broadband?
Business broadband is broadband specifically for a registered business set up in an office or workspace at home.
What's the difference between business broadband and home broadband?
Our business broadband offers business-grade problem resolution and a range of additional benefits such as Constant Connect, designed to keep you connected if there's ever a broadband outage. These kind of features are only available to our business customers.
Business broadband can be used at home if your business is registered to that address.
Can I get business broadband if I'm not a business but work from home?
Even if home is your head office, we've got a business broadband deal to suit you, thanks to our HomeWorks solution. From 24/7 IT support for all your gadgets to top tier security provided by F-Secure SAFE, we've got working from home covered. You can find out more about adding homeworks to your broadband package here
How do I choose which business broadband deal to get?
This depends on the needs of your business, including the number of devices using your broadband, how much data you're uploading and downloading, whether you need a static IP address and how quickly you'd like IT support. For further advice use our live chat or call 0800 052 1135 and one of our agents will help you choose.
What happens if my broadband goes down?
Our business broadband is 99.9% reliable, but Constant Connect means that if it ever does goes down you will be instantly switched to the 4G network for uninterrupted coverage. You can also call our technical support centre on 0800 052 0800 (8am - 6pm, Monday - Friday) and our agents will support you as quickly as possible.
Do I need to get a phone line with business broadband?
We offer broadband packages with or without a phone line. You can order a digital phone line at the same time as your business broadband, simply by selecting from the packages above.
Is there any downtime when I switch to Virgin Media?
We always try to minimise any interruption to your service as we switch you over. But for added peace of mind, as we own our own network, if you’re in a Virgin Media cabled area you can choose to keep your existing service until we connect you.
Please note you’ll need to continue paying your current provider if you do this, plus it’s your responsibility to cancel your existing services. Virgin Media can’t be held responsible if your existing provider fails to do this.
If I switch my phone line, can I keep my current phone number?
Yes, normally you can keep your BT phone number and stop paying BT line rental if you’re staying in the same local area. Just let us know when you buy online or speak to our sales team.
How can I perform a business broadband speed test?
To test the speed of your current connection, please visit our dedicated broadband speed test page. From here you'll be able to perform a speed test and see how much faster you could go with Voom Fibre business broadband.
Can my business get ultrafast broadband?
Use our postcode checker to check out what speed broadband is available to your business. We offer you business broadband packages with download speeds from 100Mbps all the way up to 1000Mbps.
What’s the difference between static and dynamic IP addresses?
There are two types of IP addresses – static and dynamic.
Static IP addresses are the same every time you connect to the internet. They’re used by all major websites, email services, FTP services and so on. By contrast, dynamic IP addresses may change each time you connect to the internet and every time you send a message over the internet.
Why are upload and download speeds important for business broadband?
Put simply, upload speed is the speed at which data is transferred from your PC to your network and download speed is how fast data gets from your network back to you. If you're streaming video calls, uploading large files or using cloud applications, business broadband with good upload speeds is essential. Voom 400 (our starting package) has an upload speed of 40mbps and Voom Gig1 fibre business broadband has upload speeds of 100mbps - perfect if your business is highly reliant on uploading lots of data to the internet.
Give your customers the service they deserve. Get a lightning-fast, always-on connection that’ll help you create a customer experience that’ll keep them coming back over and over.
